Play up your curves & downplay your size

There are certain ‘guidelines’ and style tips that help any woman feel better in what she is wearing and looking her beautiful best.

I realise I may have mentioned some if not all the points previously however, I keep getting asked by many women out there... what can I do to play up my curves and downplay my size? Know your body and what looks most flattering. Every detail counts from head to toe.

Be proud of your curves and don’t be afraid to wear form-fitting clothes that show off your assets. Confidence is key.

Define your waist. A belted dress in a dark, matte colour highlights your curves. Baggier, unstructured clothing doesn’t help size hide. In fact, loose clothing makes one look bigger... A fact!

Play with proportion regardless of your size. For example, a cropped jacket/blazer (preferably shaped) over a longer top with leggings/jeggings/skinny jeans adds length to your silhouette and makes you look long and lean.

Heels are one of the best options when you want to add height and a feminine touch. Heels are definitely the way to go. This season, there are many heels to choose from even comfortable styles like the wedge.

Key pieces for any wardrobe:

  • Bootleg jeans
  • Simple skirt
  • Full skirt
  • Sheath dress
  • Cap sleeve dress
  • Drapey dress
  • Shaped blazer
  • Tie-neck sweater
  • V-neck blouse
  • Blousy top
  • Three-quarter sleeve cardi/top
  • Pretty shell

Have fun shopping!

Be well.

What's hot in New York right now

The fashionista magazines are telling us what's hot in the world of fashion right now (I subscribe to a lot of them I have to say). Even if I don’t get the chance to read them all, I try and skim through at some stage, even if it happens to be months later. Remember, we are talking about the 2009/2010 autumn/winter season currently in the northern hemisphere.

HOT HOT HOT –

Clothes
Black & white – checks are a hit

Hues of gray - coats, dresses, skirts, shoes & bags... go crazy!

Bow peep shoes - one of my favourite styles of shoe

Boyfriend sweater

A chunky scarf

Make-up
Bold blush

Strong lipstick – stop-sign reds, corals, bright blue-reds and hot pinks work their magic

Brick red nail polish

Accessories
Low ponytail

Spicy scents

A slouchy bag

… Something to think about when the time comes.

Have a wonderful week.

Be well.

It's time to get glamorous!

So what do you think of the winter catalogue ladies?

I love to wear sexy dresses and clothes that give me confidence, are comfortable, sexy and make me feel glam any time of the day/night or the season.

I wore the crossover drape dress recently and let me tell you... I felt like a million dollars. It wasn't my event but it felt like it!

There are many figure flattering and curve hugging options in the winter catalogue that make you feel and look your best so take a peek for yourself.

Some of my favourite pieces include;

Knit skirt Lace bodice dress Capped sleeve dress  Sara wraps Crossover drape dress

Tie back top Lace overlay dress Frill shirt Zip front coat Hooded Anorak

I'd love to hear your thoughts...

Be well.

Some of your questions answered

It is wonderful to have you commenting and responding to my posts. Keep them coming and I'll do my best to get back to you promptly.

Now to answer some of your questions...

* My cultural background is Serbian/Croatian. My parents met and married in Australia and my sister and I were born in Cairns, QLD before moving to Sydney where I grew up. Yes, a name like mine doesn't sound very Australian!

* Loosing weight should be a gradual thing that takes time, patience, dedication and motivation. You have to start somewhere and sometime and today is as good a day as any to commence a healthy lifestyle change for the better. Remember, exercise is just as important as watching what you eat/drink.

* Wearing big, baggy black clothes doesn't do much for your self-esteem and self confidence. Wear clothes for your size and incorporate colours you like and that suit you in your wardrobe. Try to avoid thick, bulky fabrics as they don't do our curves any favours. There is no need to be shy or embarrassed with the clothes you wear...  you're trying to loose some extra weight so you can become healthier. Remind yourself and be proud!

* I'm a size 14/16 and 5'11' or 178cms tall.
