Thanksgiving with a Summer Twist

To those of you living in America… Happy Thanksgiving.

Hope your holiday was filled with love, cheer and delicious dishes and treats. My family and I celebrated the holiday however, without the traditional bird on the table (turkey). It’s not one of our favourite meats so we opted for seafood and lamb dishes (rather Australian of us wouldn’t you say)? We also had a yummy apple pie with vanilla ice cream to top the meal off.

Since my last post, the Sara Holiday catalogue has come out and hopefully reached all of you by now. I have some cute pieces I particularly like and would love to share them with you. They are:

Sara Print Tunic Sara Empire Line Tunic Sara Cargo Shorts Sara Cargo Skirt
Sara Denim Shorts Sara Skirted One Piece Sara Crochet Trim Cover Up Sara Maxi Crossover Dress
Sara Plain Tiered Maxi Skirt Sara Stripe Tee Sara Crossover Dress Sara Sateen Crop Jacket

Sara Border Print Maxi Dress Sara Textured Tunic Sara Maxi Sundress

Have a great week. Keep the sunscreen flowing!

Be well.

Spring time favs

Here I sit in my dining room after a long day at work and I'm looking around me at the wall where our leak left a mark, thinking back to Saturday night when Hurricane Irene brushed and rushed past our apartment. What a weird night it was.

The rain was thick and heavy and the wind carried a sense of the unknown... How bad were we going to be hit by Mother Nature? The million dollar question! We were one of the lucky ones. She came and went in about 12 hours or so and when we stepped outside of our home, we found ourselves thinking, "this is it?" Thank goodness it was. Life as we know it and back to normal.

I have since spoken to and heard varied stories of Irene's impact. From floods to power outages to fallen trees on property and cars to the tragic deaths... Irene touched the east coast of America very differently. We are most grateful it wasn’t worse in neighbourhood of New York City.

So, now to my favourite pieces from the Sara Spring collection. There are some cute outfits that are fun and flirty... Chambray, prints, spots and colour are options for the new season.

Below are my personal must-haves:

Sara Chambray Shirt Dress Sara Tie Neck Tunic Sara Shift Dress Sara Maxi Dress
Sara Back Smoothing Bra Sara Skirted One Piece Sara Scoopneck Tankini Top Sara Skirted Swim Briefs

Sara Tab Sleeved Cardigan

Enjoy the warmer weather approaching.

Be well.

Winter blues & hues

So another month passes us by… It’s almost the end of April and I cannot believe it. Here in NY, we’re not much closer to spring than we were last month unfortunately. We have small hints and signs emerging (flowers & trees are starting to bud and our courtyard is starting to look alive again). One certainly appreciates fabulous weather, when you get it!

Last month we shot the Sara Winter catalogue as you know.  I have selected some new personal favourite pieces (forgive me if I repeat myself from previous catalogues).  They include:

Sara Plain Shell Top Sara Drape Cardigan Sara Slim Cargo Pants Sara Stud Tunic
Sara Cord Pants Sara Military Check Shirt Sara Cable Cardigan Sara Crossover Knit Dress

Sara Drape Cardigan Sara Contrast Trim Cardigan

Perhaps in my next blog, I’ll have some springtime news to share with you.

To those of you who celebrate it… Happy Easter! We plan on a little Easter egg hunt in our courtyard with the kids… Let’s hope it’s not snowing!

Be well.

Let the holidays begin...

This last weekend we celebrated Halloween. Mila dressed up as a ladybug this year (mum and dad did not dress up).

At our local park, they hold an annual Halloween parade from 4pm. My husband and I have never seen so many people in it and the colours and costumes were something else. Mila’s eyes were wide open and she couldn’t stop staring at the display in front of her.

In Australia, Halloween is not widely celebrated like it is here. It has come to be an American custom and holiday. Some I have come to know take it more seriously than others. My husband and I are not those that do however, I’m sure as our daughter gets older, we will get dragged in to the tradition. Oh joy!

Have a fun week.

Be well.

Tips for a taller silhouette

Hello to you all.

Susan2 has asked for some advice in her comment dated September 12. Susan2 wants to know what tips can we offer to give the elusion of height for the ladies that don't have the height to begin with. Here goes Susan2... and if you would like to add your own tip that seems to work for you, don't be shy. Let's share, share, share.

Below are some basics to start with:

* Choose trousers/pants to fit you well (and yes Jean3), they shouldn't be too tight

* Long, wide and fully flared trousers/pants are best for short legs as they cover the shoe and give the illusion of length by adding inches

* High-waisted trousers/pants are a wonderful style for short legs/height

* Darker solid colours on your bottom half are a winner... you can team this up with a print top or another top in a similar hue to what your wearing on the bottom

* Empire waist dresses and shorter hemlines (under the knee) work best on shorter silhouettes

* Maxi dresses are flattering and help make the legs appear longer

* Long tops work over trousers, especially with a flattering empire waist or cinched in waistline

* V-neck tops are always sexy and stylish when it comes to creating a longer line

* Long line jackets are great for showing off a leg especially with a shorter skirt... wearing heels will literally add inches

* Similar/same colour tones adds length to the leg

* Don't forget the ever important heel... pointed disguises a shorter silhouette rather than square or rounded shoe

Have a good week!

Be well.

Sara Sara Sara

Well, what a busy week it has been! My feet have hardly touched the ground since I landed and things are still crazy, crazy.

After returning to Australia last weekend, on Monday the team from Good Morning New Zealand flew over and interviewed me for the first time. They were a lot of fun and we couldn't stop talking about New York, family and Sara of course. Sarah (presenter) and the producer had both lived &/or visited there for lengthy periods of time so there was lots to discuss and catch-up on.

The interview airs in New Zealand on July 10 so keep an eye out for that.

On Tuesday through to Saturday of this past week, the amazing Sara photographic crew and I shot the spring and summer catalogues in Sydney. All I can say is watch out for those bright, bold colours I mentioned in posts long ago. The collection is light, fresh and full of surprising subtle sexiness and femininity. The maxi dress is back too so there will be lots to choose from when the weather warms up and layers come off.

Be well.
